Anger Management Counselling
Unlike other emotions, when we’re angry, we can’t feel anything else. It often serves to cover over other, even more painful emotions, like the tip of an “anger iceberg”. That’s ultimately its purpose: not revenge, not hurting others, but protecting ourselves from even deeper pain that we don’t want to experience.
When dealing with anger, clients will take two steps:
First, you'll learn strategies for coping with angry episodes themselves. Those strategies will be tailored to your own needs, especially the ways in which anger has been expressing itself and been damaging in your own life.
Second, you'll look at the underlying feelings that anger is covering up. What are the “triggers” that set off the anger, and why are those the triggers? Exploring these feelings will help not only to stave off future episodes of anger, but to live a more fulfilling life.
Daniel Bader, Ph.D., RSW, CCC, works with a wide spectrum of people living with anger, including court-mandated clients. He is a Registered Social Worker and a Canadian Certified Counsellor, so his services are covered by most benefit plans.
